Masonry Painting & Paint Removal

Removing modern masonry paint from solid walls and repainting in a breathable coating.

Why paint lifts off older walls

Most masonry paint sold for modern houses forms a film across the surface. On a solid wall built of soft brick or stone that film holds moisture in, and it eventually lifts away in sheets, often bringing the face of the brick with it. Underneath there is frequently the original limewash.

What the work involves

The modern coating is taken back to a sound surface. Any failed mortar is dealt with before anything goes back on. The wall is then repainted in a breathable masonry paint. On a recent job in Leicestershire that was Emperor masonry paint.

What this includes

  • Modern masonry paint removed back to a sound surface
